TL;DR / Quick Answer (SEO): After spilling water, coffee or another liquid on a laptop in Dubai, shut it down immediately, disconnect power and avoid testing whether it still works. Do not use a hairdryer or rice. Arrange a professional inspection and request a written quote covering corrosion assessment, affected components, data precautions and repair viability.
A spill can turn an otherwise healthy business laptop into an urgent repair decision. The damage is not always visible: liquid can enter the keyboard, touchpad, connectors or motherboard, and corrosion may develop after the surface looks dry. UAE repair searches often focus on a single price, but no honest technician can quote every spill without knowing the liquid, exposure time, model and observed damage. The first objective is to reduce electrical risk; the second is to preserve business data and obtain a defensible repair-versus-replacement decision.
Immediately shut down the computer and unplug its power adapter and peripherals. Lenovo's user guidance explicitly advises stopping current through the machine to reduce the chance of short circuits. If the battery is user-removable and safe to remove, follow the manufacturer's instructions; do not open a sealed laptop or pry out an internal lithium battery. Move the laptop away from the liquid and wipe accessible external surfaces with a clean, dry cloth.
Do not repeatedly press the power button, reconnect the charger or start a benchmark to see whether the machine survived. ASUS recommends avoiding a hairdryer because heat can deform components, while Apple warns against rice and foreign objects in wet USB-C ports. Different laptop designs have different drainage features, so avoid improvised shaking or inversion and consult the exact manufacturer's instructions.
A technician should document the spill location, liquid type, time since exposure, whether the laptop was powered and any symptoms before disassembly. Sugary coffee, tea and other contaminated liquids may leave residue even after water evaporates. The technician may inspect the keyboard assembly, connectors, charging circuitry, display cable, battery and mainboard for corrosion or electrical damage.
An inspection should distinguish a faulty keyboard from a damaged motherboard or storage subsystem. If the laptop is a Mac with soldered storage, the data-recovery options can differ significantly from a Windows laptop with a removable SSD. Ask what diagnostic work is authorised, whether parts will be replaced, and whether the provider offers component-level work for the exact model. Do not assume any single repair technique will restore every damaged machine.
Ask for an itemised estimate rather than a single generic 'water damage repair' price. A quotation should state the diagnosis fee, cleaning or corrosion treatment, affected components, labour, testing, VAT treatment, expected completion conditions and warranty exclusions. Some Dubai competitors advertise starting prices, but those are their own commercial offers and cannot be used as a Rekart price or promise.
Request two outcomes where possible: the cost to restore safe, reliable operation, and the cost to recover essential files if the machine is not economically repairable. Agree on a maximum amount that requires further approval. A low initial quote that excludes damaged connectors, keyboard or board work may be more expensive in the end than a transparent diagnosis.
Before authorising repair, tell the provider whether the laptop contains customer information, financial records or company credentials. If the device is powered off and unbacked-up, do not restart it merely to copy files. Ask the technician to explain whether diagnostics require access to the SSD, operating-system login or encryption recovery keys. For corporate assets, involve the IT administrator and record the serial number and chain of custody.
Do not hand over passwords unnecessarily. If login is needed for a functional test, discuss a temporary test account or supervised verification. After repair, review account security, test file integrity and update backups. If the device is beyond repair, choose an authorised sanitisation or destruction route appropriate to its storage media before selling or recycling it.
Repair may be reasonable when damage is limited to a keyboard, connector or replaceable component and the completed cost remains proportionate to the machine's value. Replacement may be more sensible when corrosion is extensive, parts are scarce or repeat failures remain likely. A repair quote should not imply that all hidden damage can be ruled out.
After work, request tests for charging, battery safety, keyboard, touchpad, display, speakers, Wi-Fi, webcam, USB ports, sleep and wake, and a sustained workload. Keep a dated report of what was inspected and what was replaced. Rekart has a public repair enquiry page; confirm whether the specific liquid-damage diagnostic and repair scope is available before arranging service.
No. Manufacturers advise shutting it down and disconnecting power promptly to reduce short-circuit risk. Have the device assessed before attempting further use, especially after a substantial spill.
Yes. Moisture and residue can affect connectors and components, and corrosion may not be visible from the outside. A dry keyboard surface does not prove the motherboard is undamaged.
Rice is not a recommended repair method. Apple warns that small particles can damage connectors, and drying the outside does not establish that internal electronics are safe.
The cost depends on the model, liquid, affected components and diagnostic findings. Request a written itemised estimate and approval process; online competitor starting prices are not a Rekart quotation.
Sometimes, but the outcome depends on the storage design, encryption and extent of damage. Ask for a separate data-recovery assessment and do not repeatedly power the device to attempt a backup.
Not necessarily for initial hardware inspection, although some functional testing may require account access. Ask what access is needed and use a supervised or temporary testing arrangement where practical.
Rekart publicly offers a laptop repair enquiry route, but the precise liquid-damage service and component-level capability must be confirmed for your model. Submit the symptoms and request the written diagnostic scope before handing over the device.
Contact the team with the exact equipment, quantity and requirements. Current eligibility, collection, repair scope, commercial terms and documentation must be confirmed in writing; no fixed price or unverified certification is implied by this guide.
